- Description: Power may decide where AI infrastructure can start. Fiber, latency, route diversity, land, and expansion headroom may decide where it can actually scale.

AI infrastructure is usually discussed as a power problem. That is only the first gate.

The Department of Energy says U.S. transmission must expand as data-center and industrial loads accelerate. But once power is secured, the next constraint can migrate into connectivity: fiber routes, optical capacity, latency, route diversity, and the physical distance between compute sites.

That shift is already visible. Amazon and Qualcomm are developing optical connectivity reaching 1.6 terabits per second for large-scale AI infrastructure, while network suppliers are warning that higher interconnect speeds are pushing existing architectures toward physical limits.

For Atlas, this changes the map. A site with cheap land and available electricity is not automatically a strong AI hub. The winning geography may be where power, fiber, land, cooling, and expansion headroom overlap—and where multiple facilities can operate as one resilient cluster.

The bottleneck does not disappear. It moves.
